We do not have specific references on sowing this plant from seed. We checked the internet. You may have to do the same if you need more information

My main interest is for how to sow "ice salad" seeds but not for ground cover groups.
Please advise. Thanks

When common names are used it can be confusing. We are not familiar with ice salad. In searching the internet, we see ice lettuce, a type of green used in salads, loose leaf lettuces, etc.
Here is more information on sowing lettuce types. You can direct sow in the spring or late summer. http://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/lettuce
You can also sow indoors under lights 8 weeks before the last frost date. Take a look at starting seeds indoors https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/starting-seeds-indoors

If this is not what you are referring to , please give us more information.
