raised gardens, close to foothills, Arvada/Jeffco

Asked October 22, 2018, 6:10 PM EDT

Hello, we have recently moved into a new home in a new neighborhood. Our backyard landscaping was completed 2 weeks ago. We have 3 raised gardens 4'x 8'x 2' deep. We also have 2 raised gardens 4' x 4' x 1' deep. We want to plant bulbs for spring cut flowers. What growing medium do you recommend? Which depth of raised garden do you recommend?

Jefferson County Colorado bulbs

Thank you for your question. I am sorry an answer has been delayed. You may have missed the optimal time for planting spring blooming bulbs (if stores still have them!) But here is an article that should answer your questions: http://extension.colostate.edu/topic-areas/yard-garden/fall-planted-bulbs-and-corms-7-410/

Here is another article which explains the depth of soil you need for different types of bulbs and corms that might also be helpful: http://extension.colostate.edu/docs/pubs/garden/07410.pdf

Good luck!
