Fall tree planting cutoff time

How late can I plant trees in the fall in MN? Specifically wondering about containerized trees.

Hennepin County Minnesota

They can be planted until the ground freezes however spring is the best time to transplant them. If you already have a containerized tree sink the tree in the pot in a sheltered location and plant it next spring. One can also gamble and transplant now and if the winter is not too unusual be successful. http://www.myminnesotawoods.umn.edu/2007/04/planting-trees/
