lean- to floor

what soil should I put in our lean-to? the lean-to is about 150 feet from the barn. the horses will be outside almost all the time, unless there is really bad weather. I have dug about 7 inches of dirt out of the floor and the lean-to is a10 by 20 feet and was mostly clay. what do you recamend

I would suggest putting some soil/clay back in, but you could also put a peastone base and then a couple inches of slag, then straw on top of you want them to have a place to lie down. For the slag (0-1” with fines) it works really well around gates and high traffic areas, as well. Hope this helps.
