Unknown purple shrub

Asked October 11, 2018, 11:45 AM EDT

I have a shrub that I'm having trouble identifying. Full size leaves are 4-5 inches long, thick and almost leathery, and purple when mature - though they emerge green. Young bark is reddish brown with white slightly raised speckles. I have not yet seen if it flowers, though it's only in its second year. I dug it up from a neighbor's place where it was growing somewhat wild on the woody edge of a ditch. Any idea what it is?

I think it is a purple sand cherry. They are an attractive shrub and grow to about 5 ft. Wide and 8-10 ft tall.
