Applying Grub Control Before Laying Sod

Asked October 11, 2018, 10:59 AM EDT

Regarding your recommendation on curative solutions for grub control: Bayer Advanced 24 hr Grub Killer Plus - Granular trichlorfon 9.3% Apply in spring or fall to active grubs. Can this product be applied directly to the soil before laying new sod? Will it interfere with the root development? I thought I had removed the grubs, but more are emerging from deeper in the soil.

Hello,

Grub control is effective only at certain times of the year, as you probably read. Grub control products will not inhibit your sod from taking root when applied according to the label directions.

For your reference, here is the complete article with correct chemical to use and time to apply.

Right now, you can apply products containing either carbaryl or trichlorfon ( active ingredient). Then apply a preventative next season, according to the recommendation in the article.
