pruning crepe myrtle bush
When is the correct time of the year to trim a crepe myrtle bush? This year I have few blooms and wonder if last years trimming had a bad effect. It was done in late fall. Also, is there a web site or paper handout that would have pruning times for many yard and lawn shrubs,etc. Thank you.
The best time to prune crapemyrtle is in the early spring.
In reality though, planted in a site that can accomodate the mature size, they really don't need much pruning.
They flower on new wood made each season, so you weren't pruning off flower buds.
How is your sun? These plants need full sun to bloom well, and often our landscapes grow up and shade things that had previously received 6-8 hours of sun.
If you can prune or thin overhanging limbs to increase sun you may get more flowers.
