Planning Commission and ZBA Meeting Attendance by Township Officials

Asked October 6, 2018, 8:31 AM EDT

Hello! I have been looking everywhere for case law I thought I saw in my Citizen Planner course about this question. Can a member of the Board of Trustees in a Township attend a Planning or ZBA meeting “as a resident/citizen” legally if they have an interest in an agenda item? Ethically, there is a concern about influence from their presence, but is there a legal basis for them not attending? Thank you!! Lisa Nash
