Should grass seed be covered?

Asked September 27, 2018, 1:34 PM EDT

I just planted grass seed (Rebel IV Tall Fescue) last Saturday. I sprinkled some soil over it to cover it up but the rainfall this week exposed the seed again. Does grass seed have to stay covered with soil in order to germinate?

It does not have to be covered, but it should be in good, firm contact with the earth.
If the rain was very hard, it's possible that some of your seed may have washed towards your lower areas.
