raising bamboo

Asked September 26, 2018, 12:51 PM EDT

I understand some bamboo is considered invasive. Where can I find information on farming bamboo? I'm wondering what kinds of bamboo can be legally & profitably farmed. Is there a USDA sub-section, committee or focus group? And I just thought: given all the new tariff wars on China it might be better if the US became bamboo import free and grew our own. Thanks for any guidance,

Bamboo is invasive and we do not recommend planting it. We receive many questions for eradication. Here is our bamboo publication for more information http://extension.umd.edu/sites/extension.umd.edu/files/_docs/programs/hgic/HGIC_Pubs/Weeds/HG28%20Ba...

We do not have the information you are looking for. Perhaps you can contact the National Agricultural Library for more information https://www.nal.usda.gov/ and you will also have to search the internet.
