Early September Lawn Problems

Asked September 25, 2018, 11:43 AM EDT

Hello, The attached photos show my customer's lawn with gray/brown patches throughout. If you zoom in close on the photos, you'll also see areas of an oily black substance. They tell me that they have not had a lot of rain, nor have they been watering a lot. They mentioned several areas with toadstools. Can you help to identify what's going on here and also offer solutions to help them remove these problem areas? Thank you.

It sounds like this might be slime mold. This is not a danger to your lawn just does not look great. Slime molds on turf grass, a topic covered by ohioline.osu.edu gives more information on this condition. It will be helpful to you to read this article. Hope this helps.
