Spots on snake plant

Asked September 22, 2018, 1:47 PM EDT

Hi! What is causing these brown spots on my snake plant? There is also a bit of wetness on the spot. I do not overwater thenplant as I know they don’t need it. I’ve read they are hard to kill but I see these spots and it worries me. I love this plant and want to make sure I don’t get more spots. Thank you.

Thank you for your question. It is difficult to diagnose a leaf disorder without being able to examine the leaf, but I suspect it is a bacterial issue, discussed in this Extension article: You might want to contact your county Extension office for more help. They are here: Good luck!

The article you sent is it very helpful. Is there anything else you can send me? I noticed there are more spots on other leaves of the plant so perhaps it's spreading. Should I cut all the leaves down that have spots? Is this plant salvagable? Thank you.

Bacterial leaf spot does spread. As I indicated, it is impossible to diagnose your plant’s problem(s) without examining it. I cannot do that over the internet, which is why I referred you to your local Extension office, where you can see what diagnostic facilities they have. I’m in Oregon, and have no way to use a magnifying glass, or to test. You might have to break off a leaf to take it in. I just can’t predict. This is one of the limitations of electronic communications. Good luck!
