how to overwinter strawberry plants and lavender in an above ground planter

Asked September 18, 2018, 9:35 AM EDT

Hi, I have strawberry plants and lavender in an above ground planter and would like them to survive the winter to return next Spring. Do I have to transplant them into the dirt on the ground? Or could I just cover them over with mulch? Thanks.

The winter hardy lavenders are Hidicote and Munstead. They are the only varieties to survive our winters and may survive in the ground and mulched. The strawberry plants may survive in a planter depending on how low it is, how much soil and how harsh the winter but will have a better chance in the ground.
