Transplanting Grasses in the Fall

Asked September 14, 2018, 12:06 PM EDT

After I've trimmed back my grasses in the Fall, is it ok to transplant them or better to wait until early Spring?

Hello,

It is more reliable to transplant in spring so roots can re-establish and to avoid any extra stress of an unusually severe winter. But they can be done now, if you mulch them well after the ground freezes. This is so the roots don’t heave out of the ground during a freeze/thaw in mid- winter.
