Rose bush has strange growth

Asked September 6, 2018, 11:02 AM EDT

My knockout rose bushes have some branches growing that look entirely different from the rest of the plant. The branches are very close together, leaves are extremely narrow, and flowers are small. What is it and what should I do? Thank you so much. Paula

It looks like your rose has symptoms of rose rosette virus. It is a disease that is transmitted by mites and there is no cure for it, unfortunately. You can read about rose rosette here: https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/rose-rosette-shrub
Since there is no cure for it, the only thing you can do is remove the shrub.
