It appears to be in the same insect family as the "kissing" bug, Reduviidae. There are several common species in Michigan, known as assassin bugs or ambush bugs. The actual kissing bug is a tropical species. All of them in Michigan have a significant venom which they use for killing their prey- other insects and spiders. Their bite can be quite painful, but they only do it when they feel threatened. They don't feed on people or pets.
