There are no "official" costs for planting a hay field however, you can expect some ranges in cost. I use the MSU Extension Custom Machine and Work Rate Estimates for this type of estimation. Here are some ranges:

1. Chisel plowing - average $/acre $ ~16.00 (range $6.00 - $35.00)

2. Disking - average $/acre ~$13.35 (range $7.25 - $21.35)

3. Field cultivator - average $/acre ~$12.65 (range $6.00 - $30.00)

4. Land rolling - average $/acre ~$7.25 (range $3.88 - $11.65)

5. Drilling - average $/acre ~$15.75 (range $5.00 - $36.00)
