Darwin Barberry Good of Bad?

Asked August 30, 2018, 11:56 AM EDT

Hi - I am establishing a pollinator's garden with native (primary choice) and native compatible (secondary choice) plants. Friends tell me, although Darwin Barberry is great for bees, it's a risky invasive. I realize this plant for is not native but I'm attempting to get the best benefit for pollinators while not planting anything harmful on my 21 acres. What do you advise?

Hello, Non-native plants in the genus Berberis do have a reputation of being invasive. For a good summary of risk, visit: https://www.cal-ipc.org/plants/risk/berberis-darwinii-risk/

Here is a good list of alternatives: http://www.xerces.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/2017-048_MaritimeNorthwestPlantList_Dec2017_web-3pa...

Thanks
