We have been receiving a number of questions this season about acorn drop. The conclusion that one could draw is that many areas of Minnesota are observing almost record amounts of acorn drop while other areas have experienced a very small drop. Exactly why all of this is occurring is not clear but, as you surmised, it probably is weather based. For whatever reasons, oak trees tend to be quite variable when they drop acorns and in the resulting amounts. Nevertheless this drop should stop within the next two weeks. At least squirrels should be fat and happy this year.
Thanks for the question!
