Wasp Idenification

Asked August 28, 2018, 9:40 PM EDT

Hi, I found about a dozen or so dead wasps(?) on our basement floor. Somewhat localized to an area near our sump pump and dehumidifier. Are these yellow jackets? Not sure how they got in and whether to be concerned -- fortunately they were not alive. Can you identify from the photo ... thanks ...

This looks like a yellowjacket. How big is it? If it is under an inch, it is a yellowjacket. If it is over an inch, it could be a European hornet.

Yellowjackets can get inside under siding or gaps and build their nests. If you continue to see more, we recommend that you consult with a pest control professional to determine if there is a nest and remove it.
