Magnolia tree blooming in late August

Asked August 26, 2018, 7:41 PM EDT

It is late August and I have some blooms on my Royal Star Magnolia. Is that ok? How do I prevent this?

Some varieties of Magnolia do blossom more than once a season. I have no found any indication that Royal Star is one of those varieties, that does not mean that anything is wrong with your tree. I suspect the wacky weather fooled the tree into thinking it was time to blossom again - this sometimes happens with other flowering trees and shrubs (like azaleas and lilacs). You may see a reduction in flowers next spring, or maybe not! I read mixed reports. The net is your tree is fine and enjoy the second flush of flowers!
