Cedar apple rust?

Asked August 26, 2018, 4:04 PM EDT

Just planted 6 apple trees all of different varieties. There is arborvitae about 20 yards away, should I be concerned about cedar apple rust or is this limited to the juniper family. One tree is showing signs of stress however may be due to the hot weather of a few weeks ago.

Arborvitae do not get cedar apple rust only junipers and red cedar trees. The hot and dry weather this summer has been hard on newly planted trees. The recent rains should help. However, it is important to water newly planted trees until the ground freezes if there are not regular rains.
