Hi,

Thanks for contacting Ask an Expert. Since relative safety of different pest control products depends on what kind of pest is being controlled and in what situation, there's not really a one-size-fits-all answer to this question.

Not sure what pests you have? Finding out is the first step to exploring what pest control methods are the best fit for you.

If you'd like someone to help with ID, please share clear photos of whatever insects or insect damage you can see on your plants. Clear lighting, focusing on the insect and including a coin in the photo to help us tell the scale are helpful.

A handy resource for diagnosing pest problems and looking at risks and benefits of different pest control methods is http://npic.orst.edu/ I'd highly recommend checking out their Integrated Pest Management page as you consider how to diagnose and manage your pest problems: http://npic.orst.edu/pest/ipm.html
