Maple tree

We have a beautiful maple tree that was chewed on by a porcupine last winter. We wrapped it to try to keep it alive but ants invaded it this spring. We sprayed the ants with a spray that said it was safe for Maple trees but 1 branch is turning red and looks like it is dying. Is there any chance this branch will come back next spring or should we cut it off now?

Wait until winter before cutting off a branch. Wounds open up the tree to infection. Winter pruning avoids fungal spores and bacteria. If the porcupine ate the heartwood the branch will die. The damage can’t be seen well enough from a photo to assess how serious it is.
