Chelone burn?

Asked August 12, 2018, 2:25 PM EDT

Most of my 2 Chelone plantings have turned brown in the last 1-2 weeks I’ve had them for 5 years in the same locations and have never seen this to this extent before. They are in sun-part shade locations which was in the original tag. I’ve been told they might be better off in shade. Is that correct? They have not flowered yet and looks like that won’t be happening.

Authorities generally agree that turtlehead is virtually disease and pest free. Consequently we haven't been able to find a reason for the copper colored, apparently stunted plants.

Chelone thrives in part shade but abundant moisture is essential.

In the absence of an explanation for the plants' decline, we suggest purchasing healthy plants and growing them in a new, partially shaded, consistently moist location.
