Burning bush leaves dropping

Asked August 11, 2018, 7:53 PM EDT

We noticed a couple weeks ago the burning bush in our yard was dropping it's leaves. When I looked at other burning bushes in the neighborhood they are all doing the same. What is causing this? I also have a burning bush in West Virginia but it looks great.

We're getting reports of infestations of spider mites on euonymus this year. Spider mites have piercing mouthparts that suck juices out of leaves and leaves little whitish dots, called stippling. Look for that.

Here is info on spider mites, but note that you should never spray when temperatures are high: http://extension.umd.edu/hgic/spider-mites-trees-and-shrubs

It is so late in the growing season that losing some leaves will probably have no long term effect on those shrubs.
