Grass

Asked August 11, 2018, 12:22 PM EDT

What is the best way to remove crabgrass and moss, my lawn is covered in crabgrass. The moss is growing in the rear of my house where the lawn is in the shade most of the day. My lawn care service provider suggest covering the lawn in leafgro and seeding it, in order to increase the health of the lawn. Also do you have a lawn care calendar for the Maryland area. Thanks

It is too late to control the crabgrass now. The best way is to apply a preemergent in early spring.

See our publication on moss control,

And we do a lawn maintenance calendar

This is the time to overseed but this will not correct the issues you are having with moss and crabgrass. Although filling in bare spots can reduce crabgrass infestations but you should still use the preemergent next spring.
