I recently relocated to Colorado, specifically Georgetown. Will roses grow in Georgetown? If yes, what kind of roses?

Welcome to Clear Creek County and thanks for your inquiry! Yes -- some varieties of roses will grow at 8,500+'. We suggest:

  • Wood's Rose (Rosa woodsii) -- a native rose
and
  • 'Harison's Yellow' Rose (Rosa harisonii) -- not technically a "native" plant, but brought in by early mining families and does very well here.
Check out other native plants in our NATIVE PLANT DEMONSTRATION GARDEN at the corner of 9th & Taos. Please feel free to contact me directly with any other mountain gardening questions -- my office is here in Georgetown, and we give monthly EXTENSION THURSDAY presentations at the Georgetown Heritage Center. On August 30th join us for our 2nd annual HERITAGE HOPS & TASTING event! September 27th will be PUTTING YOUR GARDEN TO BED.
