We are currently clearing areas of a woodland plot and introducing native plants. In the process, many unwanted plants are appearing - including these three. Please id. Thanks!

The plant in the first two photos is American pokeweed (Phytolacca americana). It is native to Maryland and the eastern United States and provides an important food source for birds during fall migration. Some gardeners consider it a weed. https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/pokeweed It is an aggressive grower with a deep taproot that is difficult to remove once established. It is your choice as to whether you want to remove it or keep it for its benefits to native wildlife.

The plant in the third photo is Dock (Rumex sp.). The most common species are non-native. https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/dock
