Hood Strawberry Plants - continue pruning?

Asked August 4, 2018, 4:04 PM EDT

We had a lovely crop of Hood strawberries earlier this year. According to my online sources, I am supposed to prune them down to just above the crowns - which I did a few weeks ago after all the berries were done. Now the leaves and runners are back. Should I prune again? Allow the runners to propagate? They are in a raised bed and I don't want them to take over the entire bed, but I also want to have them fruit next spring. Thanks!

'Hood"strawberries are June bearers. They are harvested in June and July and, then, they're cut back severely just as you have already done. Remove all runners through fall.

See the final page of "Growing Strawberries in Your Home Garden," the specifics of handling June bearers are on the final page: https://catalog.extension.oregonstate.edu/sites/catalog/files/project/pdf/ec1307.pdf
