flies on euonymus

Asked July 28, 2018, 9:41 AM EDT

Good Morning! In the past few days, I have noticed hoards of flies on and around the Euonymus bushes near my house. Is there anything that I can do to rid the flies without harming the bush? Has the severe rain contributed to it?

Is it possible that the shrub is blooming? Sometimes flies are drawn to the flowers of Euonymus in large numbers. It is possible that fly numbers are up because of all the rain, but they are likely being drawn to your shrubs.
When it is done blooming they should disperse.
We don't recommend using any chemical controls.
