Crepe Myrtle

Asked July 26, 2018, 3:11 PM EDT

For the first time in many years (at least 6) my crepe myrtle has no blooms. A friend said that I had the tree trimmed too late in the Spring due to "bad weather" and that all the blooms were cut off. What do you think? Thanks

Crape myrtles bloom on new growth (often referred to as new wood.) If it was pruned after it had put out its new growth for the year, then, yes, the wood capable of producing flowers was cut off.

Crape myrtles should be pruning in early spring when dormant.
