Potted plants and the week long rain

Asked July 22, 2018, 10:07 AM EDT

I have a variety of potted plants on my second story deck. With the constant rain forecastsed for the week, should I move them to a dry location?

If the plants are in appropriate soil and have adequate drainage, they should be able to take it, but if you are trying to protect flowers, moving them under some cover can be helpful. Long periods of rain can kind of 'melt' flowers like petunias and geraniums, and if the humidity continues, and the flowers/leaves are not removed, the disease botrytis (a grey mold) can move in and affect the surfaces where they land.

Here is an example of that: http://extension.umd.edu/hgic/petal-blight-botrytis-shrubs
