Hello,

Many references will suggest fall planting but here in Michigan, considering our sometimes severe winters, it is best to plant in spring to give the tree all summer/fall to establish as strong a root system as possible. This presumes the tree owner will keep it adequately watered during hot dry periods in summer and through the fall up to when the ground freezes. Maples are typically very hardy trees and as long as the tree is planted correctly, located in the correct site and soil type, and watered and mulched, it should be fine to plant now.
