Is this a Japanese maple?
Whatever it is - what is wrong with it? It's been healthy up until maybe two months. The foliage is really thin, there are a lot of curly leaves on the ground. See pictures. I started giving it more water, but I am not sure that's all that's wrong with it. Thanks.
Yes, this is a Japanese maple. It looks like it is rapidly declining. From your photos, we cannot give a specific reason. But we do get a lot of questions on Japanese maples that are not thriving. There could be some root damage. This past winter was also hard on these trees. This spring we had a lot of rain and now it is so dry. There is not a good solution that will turn this tree around. You should be prepared to replace it.
