What is this weed that has invaded my lawn

Asked July 10, 2018, 4:23 PM EDT

My yard is covered with these weed sprouts (neighbor's yard as well) - they are easy to pull up - but so many of them - will a weed and feed fertilizer take care of them? Mowing just chops the tops off. I looked online but couldn't figure out what they are. I don't like spraying weed killer as I am always afraid of drift to vegetables and flowers

I'm not sure but it could be prickly lettuce. I think that if you continue to mow it regularly it may weaken it so it dies and it will keep it from going to seed. You could spray the area with a broadleaf weed killer but there is the risk for drifting. I don't know if the weed and feed would take care of them you would have to read the label. It is not as fast acting but might do it. http://www.oardc.ohio-state.edu/weedguide/single_weed.php?id=63
