Brown tips of branches on Norway Spruce

Asked July 7, 2018, 12:34 PM EDT

I have 3 norway spruce trees, but one of them is having a problem this year. As you can see from attached photos, the tips of some branches are turning brown, then the dead needles fall off. Does it just need more water? (I'll admit I haven't watered it this year and it gets full sun) Or is something else wrong?

Our plant pathologist looked at this. You will need the tips looked at by a diagnostic laboratory. Some tree service companies have their own labs (Bartlett, Davies), or a tree service company can send the sample to the UMD lab for diagnosis.
