adding soil to established tree

Can I add more soil to the base of an established aspen tree without harming it.

Yes you can. If it is a grafted tree, you will want to avoid covering the graft union with soil though as this will result in roots being generated above the graft union and the tree will kill off the rootstock. This results in a week adventitious root system that will cause the tree to fall over. Also, make sure the soil you add is pH balanced. Too low or too high pH will result in nutrient deficiencies. Also be sure to add some organic matter such as composted pine bark potting soil to the topsoil you are adding and mix it thoroughly.
