Tomato plant in too some pot.

Asked July 3, 2018, 4:02 PM EDT

I planted a tomato plant in a fairly large pot in May. As of today, July 2nd- the plant has grown 3 times the size of the pot. Is it safe to replant it in a larger pot I hope it doesn't die, if I do it. The plant has many blossoms and about 6 tomatoes on it already. Let me know ASAP. Thanks.

This will shock the plant and it may drop some blossoms/fruit but it would be a good idea to transplant to a larger pot. Do this as gently as possible. Get the pot and mixture ready first. You may want to get some help to pull the plant out as one mass and put in the new container. Keep the plant well watered. Here is our publication on container gardening for information on container sizes, soil mixtures, care, etc.
