carppenter bees in redwood pergola

I have carpenters bees boring in a high end redwood pergola.. Could you make suggestions about ridding the current bees as well as prevention of new boring next spring. I would rather not shoot petroleum products or other harsh agent into the wood for fear of staining the wood. thank you

A well maintained, painted wood is rarely attacked by carpenter bees. You may want to seal with a clear sealant or the above.
