Aspen Shoots

Asked July 2, 2018, 6:48 AM EDT

Can you tell me how to stop shoots from growing in my lawn from two large aspen trees that were cut down earlier this year? The stump was ground down to the ground. I was told to just keep cutting the shoots down to the ground so that they get no light, which I have done. I went on vacation last week and came back to shoots growing all over my organic lawn. Thank you.

The only solution is to continue removing the suckers - eventually, the stump will run out of resources and stop producing suckers. This is a characteristic of aspen trees - they sucker.
