Bamboo removal

Asked June 30, 2018, 12:52 PM EDT

My wife and i are 74 and 64 years old. We have some bamboo in our back yard that appears fairly aggressive.....spreading, coming up in a number of places. We have had thrjee arborist services come and look ovrr the situation. None of them serm to know a lot about bamboo removal or have experience with it. Info from internet is conflicting. Some of it sounds kind of scary. Any suggestions? What is a reliable source to educate ourselves? Thanks so much!

Bamboo control is rather simple in theory but not necessarily in degree of required labor: You need to remove the roots.

"Bamboo Control" outlines the various methods: Manual removal; weed killer (glyphosate is effective if used as described); and repeated mowing of the new shoots. Consider hiring help for at least the initial removal. (https://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheet/bamboo-control/)

The process will require several years because any piece of root left behind will grow.
