Which hop disease and how to treat?

Asked June 28, 2018, 7:26 AM EDT

I am growing Chinook and Cascade hops which appear to have one or more diseases.(please see images). Please review the images and let me know which diseases they might be and how most effectively to treat them. Thanks!.........Jeff Krueger

Hi There,

A few things can cause these symptoms, mite, virus or nutrient/water stress. To determin if they are mites you can flip over the leaves and look for VERY tiny mites and webbing (see here http://www.canr.msu.edu/hops/uploads/files/Two_spotted_spider_mite.pdf )

If you haven't done a soil test I would also do that and make sure your pH is in a good range and that you don't have any deficiencies. Hops take a lot of N and water--you can learn more about that here http://www.canr.msu.edu/hops/uploads/files/Michigan%20Hop%20Management%20Guide%202018.pdf

I would start by eliminating those two issues as a possibility.
