flowers on oak leaf hydrangia

Asked June 27, 2018, 9:53 AM EDT

I have 4 beautiful oak leaf hydrangia plants and they are about 3 feet tall. I did cut them back in the early spring. Now they are not blooming. 2 plants have one bloom on them and that is all. They are supposed to bloom white turn pink and then turn red. Help.

Most likely you removed the flower buds when you pruned.
Hydrangea quercifolia, Oakleaf hydrangea Flowers on previous year’s growth. It typically does not require pruning but if needed, in the spring only remove dead wood. Otherwise prune after flowering.
All you can do is wait until next season for bloom.
