Lacewings and monarch butterflies

Asked June 24, 2018, 1:07 PM EDT

Hi there! I recently purchased lacewing eggs for a problem I am having with thripes. Now I am learning that they will also eat the monarch larve. I am so bummed because I plant to encourage the monarchs to visit my home. So..... what can I do to help them both co-exist here? Thank you! Mary Valitski

Thanks for your question, Mary. Before you get too concerned, do you have milkweed plants on your property (or nearby)? If you have none, you won’t have Monarch eggs or larvae to deal with. I’ve attached a photo of a milkweed plant, in case you don’t know.
