baby sparrows

Asked June 21, 2018, 9:45 AM EDT

Sparrows have hatched eggs in the nesting box and have fed the baby birds every day, but have stopped feeding them for the last three or four days. The little ones just stick their heads out the hole and chirp all day long like they are crying to be fed. Is this normal? How long can they go without being fed?

It is possible that the parents detected too much disturbance near the nest (human or natural predator) and abandoned the clutch of young. Juveniles can probably live about 24 hours without a feeding. At such a young age however, their survival chances would be low, even if a licensed wildlife rehabilitator took them.
