Hosta Question

Asked June 20, 2018, 11:48 AM EDT

The Hosta leaves on two of my plants are changing their color designs, some plants have many different looking leaves on a single plant. They are very pretty and unique looking but nothing like they use to look. Should I dig them up and destroy them?

Hi,

Without a photo it is difficult to diagnose your problem. I am concerned that these hostas may be infected with the hosta X virus which can cause changes in the appearance of the leaves. If it is hosta X, there is no treatment, and the plants should be destroyed (and not composted). Please see the information about this virus in this link:https://hort.uwex.edu/articles/hosta-virus-x/
