Lawn soil

Asked June 14, 2018, 2:06 AM EDT

I have bought two different brands of lawn soil to cover grass seed. One is worse than the other but neither looks like soil! Looks like mulch, but not very good mulch, lots of large pieces of bark. Will the grass seed germinate and grow through this? Any suggestions as to a good lawn soil, that actually has soil in it. Both brands are well known. Thank you

Before seeding, it is best to amend the existing soil with a plant based compost or possibly use the lawn soil you bought. Once mixed into the soil, spread your seed and lightly rake the seed into the soil. Keep it moist.
