Black Witch Moth

This critter was on my front door this morning in St. Cloud. Is this common? From my research, it seems a bit north of its range. Thanks for your time.

I completely agree with your identification. You are correct that it is indeed north of its normal range. However one of the consequences of climate change is that range patterns of many species are affected. Additionally as described in the second site below, storms in southern states can drive this moth
(and probably many others) quite far north.
