Urban shade tree recommedations

Asked June 13, 2018, 12:02 PM EDT

Hello! We have a bare western-exposed backyard and are in need of a shade tree. We live in Minneapolis. We want something with thick foliage, medium to fast grower, lower maintenance, maybe 50-70' at its max, and with a narrower shape. Does anything like this exist? Lindens seem to be a good option, but we are unsure which kind. We are open to other trees too, we just are unsure what other kinds may work. If you have recommendations, we'd appreciate it. Thanks, Megan

The Redmond linden would be a great choice. I have one that is blooming now and the fragrance of its yellow flowers is wonderful. I keep looking for excuses to go under the branches. There are other lindens, like the little leaf, but that would be smaller and provide less shade than you desire. Here is information on the Redmond: https://www.gardenguides.com/99952-redmond-linden-tree.html

Thank you! We will look into this. It does sound like a good option!
